Politics and love
Most people
think that we are screaming, bed wetting liberals. Fact is that we follow about
the same proportions of republican, democrat, libertarian and independent as the
general population. We are what you are, only gay.
But we have something in common with two other well known groups in this world:
the Jews and the Jehovah's Witnesses. The Nazis tried to rid the world of all
three of us during the holocaust. So we join those who say "Never Again!"
So what is all the fuss? Why bother with politics? Who cares about the gays?
We do!!! We have our lives on the line. We have our jobs on the line and we have
our families on the line.
We are very concerned about deficit spending. Of course, everyone should be. And
we are concerned about welfare and jobs and all the things that are discussed in
politics. .But we know it wasn't so long ago that being gay meant you might die
some evening in a small southern town (and still may to this day) or lose your
job in some city in the East or Midwest because you just look too queer.
We have done our best to follow the laws of the country and serve it too but we
are hated for who we are.
We must fight anyone who would deny us life, liberty or the pursuit of
happiness. (Where have we heard these words before.) Whether it is nationally,
locally, in our chosen political party or among our family or friends.
From the 14th Amendment:
No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or
immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any
person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to
any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
From the 9th Amendment:
The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed
to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

"First they came for the Communists, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a
Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics,and I didn't speak up,because I was a
Protestant.
Then they came for me,and by that time there was no one left to speak up for
me."
